With the clock ticking ever closer to 2022, our thoughts are on the future: the future of children, protecting them, and how we as adults must stop child abuse before it happens. At Safe Shores, our Prevention and Outreach program works to do just that, every day. We know that safe and caring adults are the first lines of defense when protecting children against abuse, and that it is up to us to prevent it.
The Prevention and Outreach program provides evidence-based and trauma-informed training to the DC community to equip adults with the skills and knowledge to recognize, respond to, and prevent child abuse. These trainings include Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children® Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training.
Darkness to Light has used the Tipping Point Theory as a benchmark for preventing child abuse, saying “once 5% of a population adopts a change in behavior, the momentum for change in that population becomes unstoppable.”
Using this benchmark, with 579,747 adults in DC, and 10,987 adults trained in child abuse prevention techniques since 2007, Safe Shores is a third of the way to reaching the tipping point.
You can move us closer to the tipping point for child abuse prevention in DC. Your donations assist in providing these trainings, free of charge, to the DC community. As we head into the last hours of 2022, resolve to bring us closer to that tipping point by making a monthly, recurring gift to continue to support and sustain Safe Shores’ efforts. With your help, we can continue to build a strong network of safe and caring adults, ready to protect children.
If you haven’t yet participated in one of our Stewards of Children trainings, consider signing up for one of our upcoming training dates on our website. If you have already taken Stewards of Children, and would like to keep the conversation and learning going, join us for an upcoming supplemental training.
