It’s Pack2School time! Though school is out for a bit longer, at Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center, we’re working on making sure the children we serve have the learning tools they need for the 2023-24 school year.
Together, with you and others in our community, we’ll make sure that at least 150 children whose lives have been impacted by abuse in DC have some of the learning tools they need when they head back to class. Plus, this year, we’re delighted to have a new community partner to make donation drop off easier for generous supporters: A Few Cool Hardware Stores (more on that when you scroll down).
Here’s how you can help kids and make Pack2School 2023 a success:
1. Sponsor a backpack and school supply list for a child (or backpacks and lists).
To become a sponsor, complete the Pack2School Sponsor Request Form by Monday, July 17. Each sponsor will be paired with a list for a child by Friday, July 21.
2. Make a monetary donation in support of the drive.
No donation is too small, and every gift helps Safe Shores equip our clients with the tools they need for the school year ahead.
3. Spread the word!
Forward this email to others you know who may be interested in sponsoring or donating! You can get family, friends, and coworkers involved by setting up a virtual fundraising page or by teaming up to sponsor backpacks together. For help setting up a fundraiser, email givetoachild@safeshores.org.

New this year, A Few Cool Hardware Stores is partnering with Safe Shores to serve as a drop-off location for backpack sponsors! A Few Cool Hardware Stores is the DC area’s worker-owned Ace Hardware franchise. Not only do they carry what you need to fix up or beautify your home, they also carry many of the school supplies kids need this time of year. How cool is that?
In addition to providing more options for where and when you can drop off your backpack, all of their DC stores will be donating 100% of profits to Safe Shores for every World’s Finest Chocolate bar sold during the month of July. Do something good for kids and get something sweet for yourself – drop off your backpack and grab a chocolate bar!
How to Drop Off for Pack2School
Drop-off for Pack2School begins July 26th and ends on August 6th. Dropping off your backpack full of school supplies is easy! Follow the video and steps below:
- Head to any of A Few Cool Hardware Stores DC locations during store hours.
- If you haven’t purchased the items on your supply list, you can buy many of the items right there in the store!
- Put all of the supplies and the original supply list into the backpack.
- Hand the full backpack to one of the friendly hardware folks at the registers.
- Scan the QR code and complete the form to let us know your gift has been dropped off.
It’s as easy as that! Thank you for your support and dedication to helping the children we serve get some of the school supplies they need for school this year.
If you didn’t sign up to sponsor a list, you can still participate in Pack2School! A donation of any size will help us shop for school supplies for the children we serve.
