There are so many ways to #ProtectKids365. During this season of giving, will you support Safe Shores and show up for child abuse victims? Here are 12 ways you can support our work, all year round!
Bring a friend to Coffee for Kids
Every month, we invite community members to tour our thoughtfully designed, child-friendly, victim-focused facility, meet our team, and learn firsthand how Safe Shores works to provide intervention, hope and healing for children and families affected by abuse, trauma, and violence in the District. You can help introduce people to our work by bringing a friend (or five!) to an upcoming Coffee for Kids tour.
Shop our wish list
Safe Shores’ Wish List is an easy way to meet the direct needs of the children we serve. The Wish List is regularly updated with items needed to provide the critical services that children and families affected by abuse in the District need. Simply purchase the item and have it shipped directly to Safe Shores!
Start a fundraiser
Have a birthday, anniversary, or other special event coming up, and want to turn that special occasion into a reason for people to donate to Safe Shores? A fundraiser can raise money for Safe shores and introduce people to our vital mission. If you’d like to set up a fundraiser on our behalf, please email us at givetoachild@safeshores.org.
Suggest your employer make a year-end gift to safe shores
Lots of businesses like to focus their charitable giving on the causes their employees support – yours just might be one of them! Talk to your employer to see if they would be interested in supporting Safe Shores.
Attend a free Stewards of Children® training
Over the past decade, we have trained over 12,000 adults on how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse through the Stewards of Children® training. You can help end sexual abuse by signing up for a training. Every adult trained helps make DC safer for children!
Bring Stewards of Children® training to your group
Individually, we can each make a difference – but together, we can work toward a future where DC is abuse-free! Ask your employer, faith community, sorority or alumni group to coordinate a training for ten or more people.
Use our bookshop.org link to buy your books
Whether you’re a bookworm yourself or buying gifts for others this holiday season, you can support Safe Shores and independent bookstores across the country by purchasing through our Bookshop.org affiliate link. We’ll receive 10% of the total sale price, and another 10% will go into a fund for independent bookstores. A win-win for kids in DC and for readers everywhere!
Donate stock or recommend a donor-advised fund gift
If you like to give stock donations or through a DAF, it’s now easier than ever! Thanks to The Giving Block, Safe Shores can now quickly and securely receive stock and DAF gifts when you start the process online.
Already donated? See if your employer will match your gift!
Did you know that some employers will match your monetary donation to Safe Shores? Check to see whether your employer has a matching gift program! Some companies even match gifts for retirees. Many matching gift programs require that employees submit their requests by the end of the year, so if you have made a gift to Safe Shores in 2023, make sure to let your employer know about it by December 31st.
Share one of Safe Shores’ informational posts on social media
Raising awareness for our work not only helps new supporters find us, it also decreases the stigma around talking about child abuse. Consider sharing these myths and facts about child abuse.
Join the LifeSavers Monthly Giving Society
Monthly giving allows Safe Shores to plan our work more confidently since we can anticipate receiving needed resources to support the work. Since we relaunched the LifeSavers last year, 20 people have joined and together have contributed over $20,000!
These are just some of the many ways that you can support Safe Shores and make a difference in the lives of DC’s youngest victims. Thank you for being part of the solution.
